Another reason to celebrate: The Amazon basin also called the Amazon jungle was recently voted a new natural wonder of the world in an election promoted by the New 7 Wonders Foundation. This lung of the planet outstands for its exuberant biodiversity, as well as for its amazing water volume, which equals the volume of the ten largest rivers in the world all together; no wonder it is the greatest on earth. The beauty of its landscapes, its exotic plants and animals are today honored.
This tropical rainforest crosses eight South American countries, but the largest part is located in Peru and Brazil. Thus, Peru is proud of having now two wonders recognized worldwide. The majestic citadel of Machu Picchu and the impressive Amazon are displaying the red-and-white emblem of Peru and are eagerly awaiting the prompt visit of their admirers.
